Message from the CEO and President

Our Mission: Enhancing Industrial Robots with Vision and Intelligence.

In 2014, the number of industrial robots produced worldwide was 220 thousand, with 60% of them made in Japan. Utilized in many different factories, these industrial robots contribute greatly to maintaining Japan's international competitiveness in the face of its falling birthrate and aging population. By equipping these industrial robots with vision and intelligence, the areas where industrial robots can be utilized can be significantly expanded, and the production numbers of industrial robots would increase tenfold.

A robot equipped with vision and intelligence is able to efficiently recognize, carry, supply, build and process materials. 3D MEDiA believes that there will come a day when all manual labour in factories can be completely replaced by automation using intelligent robots, and we are earnestly carrying out research and development to contribute towards achieving this goal.

The ''eyes'' of an industrial robot should provide it with the ability to perform object recognition and pose estimation in three dimensions. This problem can be defined as a search problem in a six-dimensional space. This problem has remained difficult for over 30 years due to its complexity. A typical application would require searching through trillion points in the search space. In addition to this, the ''brains'' of an industrial robot should provide it with the ability to intelligently control its motion based on what it sees. This motion control problem can again be defined as a search problem in six-dimensional space.

Based on research at the Ritsumeikan University in Japan, our company has solved the above technical problems, and have released TVS in March 2011. TVS is the first vision sensor for industrial robots, and ever since, we have been leading this industry. We have collaborations with many major industrial robotics companies such as Yasukawa Electric, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Denso, Mitsubishi Electric, FANUC Corporation and ABB, and their robots can be easily connected with TVS. Our products have been installed in many factories, and are being continuously utilized in every day operations. We have a capital of approximately 1 billion yen, coming from our investors which include OMRON Ventures, Toyota Tsusho, SMBC Venture Capital, Innovation Network Corporation of Japan, SPARX Asset Trust & Management Co., Ltd and Mitsubishi UFJ Capital Co., Ltd.

Besides the development of state-of-art technologies, we are also enhancing our product support systems. Members of our sales team are also competent field engineers of our TVS system. Together with the industrial robot manufacturers, system integrators, and resellers, we are continuously seeking to open new markets with the aim of promoting the widespread adoption of intelligent industrial robots. We believe that our technology can make a significant contribution to industrial development and economic growth.
